Brad Pitt Will Star In World War Z
The last few years have seen an explosion of zombie related media, dubbed zombie lit. After some very successful zombie movies, like 28 Days Later, there were soon zombie themed novels that followed. One of one of the most popular zombie lit novels were the World War Z books, alongside Quirk Books’ Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The film version of World War Z has been within the works for a while, and Brad Pitt is confirmed to star.
The coming zombie apocalypse
The precursor to World War Z was a novel called The Zombie Survival Guide, released in 2003. It is a practical guide on dealing with the undead. World War Z came out in 2006, a follow up to that book, which is a collection of interviews with zombie apocalypse survivors. The writer is Max Brooks, a former writer for Saturday Night Live and son of a famous director who knew how good it was to be the king. It has been waiting to get off the ground after being picked up for a movie in 2007.
This could turn out excellent
From a recent post on MTV, Brad Pitt has been announced as starring in the film at this year’s Comic Con. Some other Max Brooks works are optioned by Paramount as well. Marc Forster, director of Quantum of Solace, was attached to direct at one point, but that is likely to change. There haven’t been as many zombie films of late, so the genre may be on the way out.
Not the only zombie film within the works
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is also in the works, in addition to the film version of World War Z. The mish-mash of Jane Austen’s classic novel and zombies, ninjas and carnage will come out sometime within the next year, and will star Natalie Portman. Seems like zombies have taken a backseat to whining vampires and werewolves with awful dialogue, but this just might be epic.
