The Best TV Shows Of The Decade
Most shows on TV are truly awful these days but the 3 television programs I highlight here stand above other TV shows as three of the best television programs of the century to this point!
The first show I want to recommend is The Wire which was an excellent HBO program which was on for 5 seasons. Each of those five seasons takes a look at the city of Baltimore, Maryland from a different perspective. It is a wonderful show not only as a show that really pulls viewers in (similar to the other two series in you will find below I remember watching quite a few episodes in in just one day) but also as a show that makes really important points about what’s going wrong in modern cities.
I do not want to get into the specifics of these points are, since I think the show itself makes them much better than I could in an article like this one. But I will mention that one of the things I really enjoy about this remarkable show is how it really blurs the line between the “good guys” and the “bad guys.” The Wire is realistic in portraying people as having positive and negative features rather than as either simply all good or all bad.
The second show I want to recommend is actually the only one of the these three that is still on the air and that is Dexter. This is a show that I did not think I would like when I first read about it so it did take some time before I finally watched it. I’m glad that I did. It’s ended up among my favorite shows of all time. Yes, it’s definitely twisted (the main character is a serial killer after all) but it’s twisted in a very interesting way.
The last show I recommend as a great TV series of the 21st century is the one I’ve been most obsessed with lately and that’s probably because the series just ended! You can now buy the complete series of Lost and that’s really the way to go since this is a series that must be watched from start to finish without skipping any episodes.
What I really loved about Lost is that it is “one big story” where every show is a valuable part of the whole and leads (in some way or another) into the next show. The key to really enjoying Lost is to watch it from the beginning and avoid all spoilers.
