In this day and age, seeing a person wearing a Glee shirt is no longer an uncommon sight, due to how the popular TV series broke new ground with its fresh concept that is entertaining for audiences both young and old.Glee, created in 2009 by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuck and Ian Brennan, is about the choir New Directions, which is composed of William McKinley High School students who are very different on the surface but have one thing in common: their love for singing.Matthew Morrison plays Will Schuester, a former student of McKinley High who wishes to bring pride back to the school by reviving the glee club’s glory days.

As a musical comedy-drama, Glee boasts of performance-based musical numbers that feature various chart hits, as well as popular show tunes.Typical high school concerns such as bullying, sexuality, relationships and peer pressure are only some of the issues tackled in the show’s different storylines.

The most relevant lesson that Glee teaches is that people should learn to stick up for themselves against all odds, and that they should not let others tell them they are not good enough, as is often the case with Jane Lynch’s character and the choir’s arch enemy, McKinley High cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester.

A worldwide hit among self-professed “gleeks”, Glee has not only won over audiences through their acting, they have also re-introduced some of the best songs and artists that the younger generation may not easily relate to.The cast members themselves perform the TV show’s hit songs, which are then sold as compilation albums or through iTunes as singles.Because of the show’s popularity, all kinds of merchandise related to the show were selling left and right, such as Glee tee shirts, young adult fiction and iPad applications.
